We're delighted to announce that we're starting a new singing club led by Róise Ní Mhurchú as part of the Derry City and Strabane District Council’s Associate Artists Scheme. It will take place on the third Thursday night of every month, from 7 to 8.30, with the bar open as well. In Irish, Róise will teach a new song associated with Derry and the local area, followed by a singing circle open to all. If you have a sean-nós song to share, we would love to hear it!

About Róise

Róise Ní Mhurchú is a young musician who has made a name for herself in the traditional music scene. She hails from an Chúil Mhór in Doire. Additionally she has drawn inspiration from Rann na Mónadh and the Gaeltacht of Tír Chonaill while learning her songs. Róise has won two medals at Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann in 2025: a gold medal in lilting and a silver medal in Sean-nós singing. She has also achieved recognition at Oireachtas na Samhna, winning a silver medal for Irish-language singing in November 2023 and receiving a nomination for Young Star of the Year 2025.

Róise is currently based in Béal Feirste, where she is studying Irish-medium education. She teaches singing in both Béal Feirste and Doire, and has also conducted music workshops across Éire. As part of the scheme she'll be researching and curating a collection of eight songs from the area, to be launched in the Cultúrlann as part of Seachtain na Gaeilge 2027.
