Macdara Ó Faoláin is a multi-instrumentalist and instrument maker from An Rinn, County Port Láirge. On his main instrument, bouzouki, he has performed and recorded with some of the best musicians in Irish traditional music including Páraic MacDonnchadha, Derek Hickey, The Friel Sisters, Caoimhín and Seán Ó Fearghail, Shane Meehan, Oisín Morrison, Conor O'Sullivan, Victoria Pierce and Nell Ní Chróinín. His intimate knowledge of harmony and gentle instrumental technique come together to create his own unique style of accompaniment on the bouzouki.

His debut solo EP 'Do Shamhlaigh Mé Tír Nua…' was recently nominated for album of the year by NÓS, and Macdara was also nominated for best folk instrumentalist by the RTÉ Folk Awards. Named the young musician of the year by TG4 in 2024, Macdara is solidifying his place as a significant figure in the world of traditional Irish music.

Designed for intermediate and advanced players, this workshop provides a great opportunity to refine your skills and deepen your understanding of traditional music. After the workshop, you will have the opportunity to play a few tunes with Macdara at the concert taking place in the Cultúrlann between 14:30-15:30.

The workshop will be done through Irish.
